Digital Video Recorder (DVR) Systems

The right digital video recorder (DVR) is just as important as the right camera. DVRs are essentially VCRs but they record digitally to a hard drive. There are different hard drive sized available.

Different types of DVRs include standalone, PC based, and PC cards. Standalone are dedicated machines like the ones attached to your TV. PC based are generally dedicated computers. PC cards are usually PCI cards inserted into your computer and recording on your computer's hard disk. Usually the computer is dedicated to serving the DVR.

You can also still purchase an analog, tape based VDR for use with surveillance cameras.
